As sete pregas do hakama (5 na frente e 2 atrás) têm o seguinte significado simbólico.

1.Yuki = coragem, valor, bravura 

2.Jin = humanidade, caridade, benevolência 

3. Gi = justiça, retidão, integridade 

4. Rei = etiqueta, cortesia, civilidade 

5. Makoto = sinceridade, honestidade, realidade

6. Chugi = lealdade, fidelidade, devoção

7. Meyo = honra, reputação, glória ou reputação, dignidade, prestígio

O Real significado do Hakama não é de status mas sim de serviço aos companheiros e ao Bushido.
